Terma has signed an MoU with Austria’s Danube Cell Manufacturing (DCM) to explore opportunities for joint battery development, testing and validation, the companies announced on 5 August.
The initial intent is to combine the Danish company’s battery cell testing technology with DCM’s expertise in development and manufacture of customized batteries. “Battery technologies are developing quickly, but their performance, safety and reliability must be validated under demanding, application-specific conditions. By combining Terma’s testing technology with DCM’s battery cell expertise, engineered and manufactured in Europe, we aim to help customers move more efficiently from early development to validated solutions,” explained Mats Warstedt, SVP Space for Terma.
Marking a considerable step forward in optimising the development of future batteries, the collaboration will at first focus on critical applications within aerospace and defence. The partners are developing a framework for identifying customer needs, exploring joint projects, and developing tailored approaches to battery testing and development. “Our collaboration with Terma creates an opportunity to connect customised cell development with advanced testing and provide stronger support for customers whose requirements cannot be met by standard solutions,” added Dr Marcus Jahn, DCM’s CEO.
