Valmet and Patria expanding AFV production cooperation

Valmet Automotive Oyj and Patria Land Oy have inked a new multi-year agreement to expand manufacturing of AFVs at the former company’s Uusikaupunki plant in Finland to “hundreds of vehicles per year,” according to a 15 June release from the companies. Following the technology transfer for Patria’s 6×6 vehicles last year and manufacture of initial examples, the new agreement builds combined capacity for production and further development.

Technology transfer has been an integral part of Patria’s business model for the past couple of decades, and it has significantly contributed to the success of Patria’s vehicle programmes,” said Patria’s EVP Protected Mobility, Jussi Järvinen. “While we have also increased our own production and investments continue at our production facilities in Hämeenlinna and Valmiera, we have been looking for additional capacity. Valmet Automotive implemented the technology transfer particularly quickly, and vehicle production started in a short time. The expansion of this excellent cooperation brings us tremendous scalability.”

The expanding cooperation is made possible by Valmet Automotive’s advanced serial manufacturing expertise accumulated over decades for the most prestigious brands in the automotive industry. This is reflected in the quality, scalability and fast production ramp-up as well as security of the technology transfer. Full capacity for the new agreement is expected to be reached early in 2027. Taking the entire subcontractor network in Finland into account, the cooperation between Patria and Valmet Automotive generates employment for approximately 240 people per 100 vehicles.
