Unsurprisingly this year, Farnborough abounds with UAS airframes, sensors, control systems and payloads – as well as the inevitable counter-UAS solutions, mostly inspired by the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian conflict. Prominent among the non-kinetic aspects of the UAS community is ePropelled, a UK-based leader in advanced electric propulsion and intelligent power management, which launches two new product lines at the show.
The launch of eP Unified Architecture (ePUA) and ePlink offers developers and operators the opportunity to define and enable software-defined propulsion systems. The combined solution represents a significant shift from component-based propulsion design toward integrated, intelligent and continuously evolving propulsion ecosystems.
ePUA brings together motors, controllers, starter-generators, intelligent power systems and connected software into a single platform, enabling system-level propulsion management across uncrewed air, land and sea applications. ePLink is a space-efficient onboard device that allows direct interaction with propulsion systems, enabling firmware updates, system configuration, diagnostics and secure data exchange between embedded systems and cloud-based tools.
“We are moving from static hardware to propulsion systems that can evolve over time,” said Dean Marcarelli, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer. “With ePLink and our Unified Architecture, customers can unlock new capabilities through firmware, improve performance continuously and simplify how systems are configured, deployed and maintained.”
The platform is being introduced in an early-access phase, with ongoing validation and quality assurance driving continuous iteration across firmware, communication protocols and system integration workflows.
Also on show at booth 2039 at Farnborough will be the second launch for the company at Farnborough – the SKYLARK series of high-performance, fully integrated propulsion systems designed for light to medium UAS. It addresses the growing operational demand for modular design and fast, simple assembly of UAS platforms, enabling efficient production at scale.
The series combines motor and controller components into a single integrated solution, enabling aircraft designers to integrate propulsion subsystems more efficiently, allowing more compact platform design or increased payload capability. The system also reduces assembly times, reducing the amount of wiring and connections which in turn enables manufacturers to decrease build time per aircraft while improving manufacturing repeatability at scale.
“We are seeing a clear shift toward the need to scale production of more capable UAV platforms without compromising reliability, performance and mission effectiveness,” Marcarelli commented. “SKYLARK has been engineered specifically to meet those requirements, delivering ePropelled’s renowned power, endurance and integrated control solutions in a compact unit for efficient and fast assembly.”
Built using secure and sovereign supply chains, the SKYLARK Series is an NDAA-compliant solution for European and NATO-aligned UAS manufacturers and operators.
