With the ambition of building a sovereign secure communications capability for Denmark and its allies, Terma has entered into an agreement to acquire Dencrypt A/S, a national provider of end-to-end encrypted communications.
The acquisition will strengthen Terma’s portfolio with one of Denmark’s most advanced sovereign encryption technologies, expanding the company’s ability to deliver trusted solutions that protect and enable the secure exchange of critical information across the governmental, defence, critical infrastructure and industrial spheres. By bringing Dencrypt into Terma Group, the company combines world-class Danish cryptographic expertise with its own international reach, industrial capabilities and long-standing relationships across defence and security markets. The ambition is to further develop Dencrypt’s technology into a market leading sovereign secure communications solution, ensuring Denmark, allied nations and trusted international partners have access to trusted encryption technology developed and controlled in Denmark.
Dencrypt’s technology provides end-to-end encryption for voice, video, messaging and data across standard smartphones, tablets and computers without requiring specialised communications hardware. Operating across commercial mobile networks, public Wi-Fi and satellite connections, the technology enables defence organisations, governments and operators of critical infrastructure to communicate securely using trusted commercial devices while maintaining full control over sensitive information.
“Modern defence depends on trusted information. Every advance in sensors, AI and situational awareness increases the value of data, but that value is only realised when information can be shared securely. Dencrypt represents strong cryptographic expertise and encryption technology developed in Denmark. By bringing Dencrypt into Terma, we are strengthening our ability to deliver sovereign technologies that help defence organisations, governments and trusted partners [to] protect critical information and operate securely. Our ambition is not only to preserve this unique capability, but to invest in it, strengthen it and make it available to Denmark, our allies and trusted partners around the world,” commented Henriette H Thygesen, CEO of Terma.
Dencrypt was founded on cryptographic research at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and has spent more than a decade developing encryption solutions for organisations with the highest security requirements. Its patented Dynamic Encryption technology is Common Criteria certified at EAL4+ level and represents one of Denmark’s leading sovereign encryption technologies.
The company’s solutions are trusted by governments and defence organisations that need to protect highly sensitive communications while enabling personnel to work securely on standard commercial devices. This flexibility is becoming increasingly important as military units, government agencies and operators of critical infrastructure exchange sensitive information across organizations, domains and national borders.
“Since founding Dencrypt, our ambition has been to give organisations with the highest security requirements full confidence that their communications remain protected and under their control. Joining Terma gives us the opportunity to accelerate that journey by combining our technology with Terma’s scale, industrial capabilities and international reach. Together, we have the opportunity to further develop market leading sovereign secure communications capabilities for defense organizations, governments and critical infrastructure operators,” added Dencrypt CEO, Christian Jul Jensen.
As defence operations become increasingly digital and interconnected, governments are placing greater emphasis on maintaining sovereign control over the technologies that protect critical information. Secure communications have become an essential part of modern defence and national resilience policies, ensuring operational information remains protected wherever it is created, shared or acted upon.
The acquisition strengthens Terma’s position as a trusted European defence technology company and systems integrator, expanding its portfolio of sovereign technologies while reinforcing its role as a long-term partner to defence organisations, governments and industry.
