The US Army’s PEO Soldier has selected the HERO 90 loitering munition to participate in the service’s Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance (LASSO) programme, according to a 19 January release from Mistral, Inc. and Uvision, Inc.
An urgent initiative to provide dismounted units with a man-portable, precision anti-armour capability, LASSO seeks to deliver the capability for rapid, highly lethal engagement of armoured threats into the hands of US Army Brigade Combat Teams (BCT). HERO 90, a member of the HERO loitering munition family developed by Uvision, offers extended-range, high-precision engagement from an extremely portable system, which can be brought into action by a single soldier in under two minutes. Integrating with Common Control architectures and featuring configurable warheads, a mission abort/re-engage option and secure BLOS communications, HERO 90 offers frontline troops decisive effects, including a top-attack capability.
“Selection of HERO 90 reflects the Army’s focus on portability, lethality and MOSA-ready integration. Together with Uvision, Mistral will support PdM Soldier Precision Targeting Devices with a solution that aligns to Common Control and integrates seamlessly across the BCT kill chain,” explained Yoav Banai, SVP at Mistral.
