LionStrike – a team of GM Defense, BAE Systems and NP Aerospace offering low-risk COTS-based solutions for the UK MoD’s Land Mobility Programme (LMP) – showcased its light vehicle lineup for the first time in the UK on 13 November at a media event staged at the Millbrook Proving Ground.
The enterprise is offering the demonstrated vehicles to meet the requirements LMP – specifically, the General Support Utility Platform and the Light Mobility Vehicle vehicles, for which selections are expected to be made next year. Thousands of platforms are potentially in prospect, with the LMV programme destined to replace the British Army’s legacy Land Rover and Pinzgauer vehicles, due to be retired by 2030.
LionStrike’s GSUP offering, revealed at DSEI 2025 in London in September, is based on the Chevrolet S10 Work Truck, “a rugged, high-performance, multi-mission vehicle designed for rapid configuration and deployment across a range of operational scenarios – delivering mobility, payload, capacity and flexibility,” according to a 14 November release. The release went on to quote GM Defense President Steve duMont stating “our objective with Team LionStrike is to support the UK Ministry of Defence’s goal of rapidly modernising its ground vehicle fleet, providing soldiers the best tools to perform their mission”.
The event showcased three proven COTS light and utility military vehicles: the GSUP (4 crew, 207HP diesel, 1,116kg payload); the Silverado 1500 ZR2 (5 crew, 305HP diesel, 705kg payload); and the Infantry Squad Vehicle-Utility (ISV-U) with up to 5 crew. LionStrike’s offer will focus on delivering both economic growth as part of the Land Industrial Strategy and significant potential for export. NP Aerospace will act as the proposed UK-based design authority, with BAE Systems providing the industrial scale to enable delivery of thousands of vehicles. The team is already building a sustainable UK supply chain and delivery ecosystem.
