Team LionStrike – the collaboration formed by GM Defense, BAE Systems and NP Aerospace to craft a bid for the British MoD’s Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV) programme – announced on 16 September it has appointed NP Aerospace as prime contractor. This further strengthens the UK-led character of the approach to programme delivery and through-life support.
As prime contractor, NP Aerospace will lead the UK customer interface and programme delivery, working with BAE Systems, which has a deep well of experience in delivering complex defence programmes, and GM Defence, which contributes its proven vehicle technology to the team.
NP Aerospace has also been appointed an official OEM-certified support provider for the GM vehicles proposed for the programme. This certification enables NP Aerospace to diagnose, service, maintain, modify and repair GM vehicles in the UK and on deployed operations. The arrangement gives British forces access to GM-backed technical expertise, approved work processes, genuine parts, training, manuals, technical bulletins and data publications. The certification will maximise fleet availability and operational readiness while reducing reliance on overseas support.
“These appointments reflect our commercial and technical expertise and long-standing commitment to supporting military forces globally. By working directly with GM’s OEM ecosystem, we can deliver UK based programme and support services that help maintain safety, resilience and operational readiness throughout the life of these fleets,” commented David Petheram, Managing Director and SVP, Vehicle Systems, Services and Spares at NP Aerospace.
Steve duMont, President and CEO, GM Defense, added: “Team LionStrike is proposing mission ready solutions for [LMV] and we believe a UK-based prime contractor will enable our team to best support our customer’s mission throughout the vehicle life cycle. Appointing NP Aerospace as Team LionStrike’s prime contractor, while also certifying them as an official GM Defense support provider, gives customers direct access to GM’s expertise, industry leading processes, and genuine parts in the UK and on deployed operations.”
