Metis Aerospace announced the launch of Skyperion Lightweight – its latest mobile detection product for counter-UAS applications – on 29 January.
With virtually all the same passive detect, track and identify (DTI) capabilities as the larger Skyperion Rugged, the new system has been engineered into a smaller, lighter format, optimized for operators requiring mobility, rapid deployment and on-the-move capabilities. Already at TRL (technical readiness level) 9, Skyperion systems have been operationally proven with multiple NATO partners and are distinguished by a non-library-based Open ESM waveform analysis: this identifies all emitters across a wide spectrum of frequencies, providing an agile, comprehensive RF detection capability without reliance on static signal libraries.
Skyperion Rugged is integrated into the RAF’s ORCUS system and Leonardo’s Falcon Shield deployed with NATO allies. It can be integrated into a wide range of counter-drone capabilities (radar, optics, jamming and defeat) due to its system agnostic and modular nature, with an open architecture. This allows for easy incorporation with other best-in-class technologies.
“With the increasing proliferation of rogue drones being used for nefarious means, it is essential that we continue to innovate and develop new products to counter these threats. Skyperion Lightweight offers users ultimate flexibility on how it is deployed – not only protecting fixed locations but also providing virtually the same level of protection as Skyperion Rugged in a mobile format which we know many potential customers are seeking,” observed Metis CEO, Tony Burnell.
Metis has provided innovative technologies to detect a wide range of RF threats in order to protect people, assets and information for the last decade. The team has expertise and experience developed from backgrounds in signals intelligence, EW and counter-cyber activities, with the essential knowledge and innovative technology solutions to detect, analyse and identify a threat, develop a solution and deliver the required capability.
