Moxa to reveal Ethernet APL and EtherCAT innovations

Embedded systemsNews

Moxa Europe GmbH will present its new EtherCAT and Ethernet APL (Advanced Physical Layer) products at SPS 2025 in Nuremberg, 25-27 November.

The company’s EtherCAT junctions and gateways support industrial applications with fast, cost-effective and deterministic EtherCAT technology. Highly reliable in continuous operation, with an intuitive interface for easy configuration and compact size, they allow users to create flexible topologies and convert serial networks to industrial Ethernet.

The EJS series EtherCAT junctions are designed for greater flexibility and efficiency in industrial EtherCAT networks. Thanks to the simple configuration of star, line, ring and tree topologies, EtherCAT devices can be connected in a modular and efficient manner. Users can connect a redundant power supply to two power inputs, ensuring continuous operation in the event of power failure. With its robust metal housing, high electromagnetic compatibility and wide temperature range, the EJS series guarantees uninterrupted, reliable operation in harsh industrial environments. Certifications from the EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG) and the EtherCAT Test Center vouch for compatibility and seamless integration into any network.

The MGate 5216 series EtherCAT gateways support both Modbus RTU/ASCII clients and MicroPython for programming proprietary serial protocols. This means that Modbus and serial devices can be connected to an EtherCAT host. Multiple serial devices can be connected cost-effectively via two serial ports that are configured via software. The EtherCAT gateways offer an intuitive web console for easy configuration. Monitoring and diagnostic tools support troubleshooting while security functions based on IEC 62443-4-2 ensure reliable protection.

The Ethernet APL switches will be exhibited at SPS for the first time. They significantly advance field communication by transmitting data and power over a single connection, allowing for high-speed communication at 10Mbps in full-duplex mode over distances of up to 1,000 metres. This makes Ethernet APL ideal for building scalable and reliable industrial networks that increase operational efficiency. Due to its inherent safety features and explosion protection, Ethernet APL is also suitable for use in hazardous environments.
