BIRD Aerosystems provides helicopter DIRCM upgrades in Asia-Pacific

C4ISR and cyberDefence industry

BIRD Aerosystems announced on 2 February it has won a contract, valued at “tens of millions of dollars”, to supply advanced SPREOS directed infrared countermeasures (DIRCM) systems for a helicopter upgrade programme in the Asia-Pacific region.

The company will collaborate at a strategic level with a “leading local defence company” in the undisclosed customer nation, including comprehensive knowledge transfer and indigenous production. Dozens of helicopters are to be covered under the programme. The patented SPREOS solution detects, tracks and confirms incoming missile threats, offering comprehensive protection against MANPADS attacks with a false alarm rate close to zero. It can be optimized for a wide range of mission-critical airborne platforms and integrates seamlessly with diverse missile warning systems.

In addition to the supply contract, the agreement establishes a long-term strategic partnership aimed at expanding industrial cooperation and strengthening both domestic production capabilities and global market reach in advanced airborne self-protection technologies. BIRD co-CEO Ronen Factor states the contract “marks another key step in BIRD’s global growth and reinforces our position as a trusted provider of advanced airborne protection solutions. Through our strategic partnership […] this program will pave the way for continued success in the region and open additional opportunities across international markets.”
