Uvision Group announced its acquisition of SpearUAV on 26 November, marking a further step in the Group’s expansion and consolidating its position as a supplier of a comprehensive range of loitering munitions.
Uvision took a stake in SpearUAV four years ago, since when he latter’s Viper family of encapsulated AI-driven loitering munitions, incorporating ISR, strike, EW and counter-UAS capabilities, have provided a powerful complementary portfolio to the Uvision HERO family. The acquisition will accelerate SpearUAV’s ability to realise its vision as an organic ‘battalion-level air force’, providing persistent support and operational reach. Viper and HERO together now address missions at higher echelons, providing precision surveillance, target acquisition and strike capabilities for tactical and operational formations on land and at sea. The merger “strengthens our ability to deliver a robust and versatile product portfolio. By combining forces, we will deliver strong, versatile [products] and integrated solutions with greater operational impact and value to our customers,” commented Uvision CEO, Dr Ran Gozali.
Yiftach Kleinman, CEO of SpearUAV, added “Joining forces under the Uvision group will allow us to expand our reach and deliver greater value to global customers“.
DA Comment
The acquisition comes at a time that some observers of the loitering munitions and counter-UAS communities are beginning to voice concerns over the plethora of smaller companies that have entered the market in recent years. Funding has been reasonably prolific to date, fueled by observations of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the daily lessons being learned as to the efficacy of both precision strike systems and drones. This move, consolidating resources, extending a proven product offering and taking advantage of technology and commercial synergies, is a well thought out answer to such criticism.
