Elbit delivers GBSR to British Army

Elbit Systems has delivered 55 Ground-Based Surveillance Radars (GBSR) to the British Army, alongside relevant support solutions, meaning the company has achieved the first tranche of its contracted equipment deliveries, it announced on 12 November.

On the heels of successful live fie trials earlier this year, the portable radar system will operate in two modes in Royal Artillery service – surveillance and fall-of-shot (FoS) correction. In the former role it will track and classify personnel, vehicles, helicopters and UAS, providing an accurate picture of both friendly and potentially threatening forces. In FoS mode the rapid and accurate reporting will enable artillery and mortar fire teams to increase their effectiveness and lethality.

Specifically developed to meet customer requirements, GBSR is manufactured in Britain and Europe and offers the user a high-tech solution enhancing survivability of front-line troops and providing operational advantage today and tomorrow. The remaining systems will be delivered to the Army by the end of 2025.

GBSR will enhance the situational awareness of personnel on the ground, help keep them safer, by better-detecting enemy threats, and give them the advantage in locating targets,” commented the company’s CEO, Martin Fausset.
